This solar security cam brings facial recognition to your yard

Tend Secure

Tend Secure, the startup behind Lynx indoor camera is back with a new product – the $ 200 Lynx Solar outdoor camera. Currently available for pre-order at a $ 150 discount, Lynx Solar is expected to begin shipping in late October.

Here’s an overview of the Lynx Solar features:

  • 1080p HD streaming
  • Face recognition software
  • Motion detection sensor
  • Two-way internal communication
  • Free 7-day cloud storage
  • Infrared night vision

Tend Secure says its solar panel accessory can power Lynx Solar camcorders for up to 7 days (when fully charged).

I was thrilled that the Lynx Solar was able to recognize faces, as shadows, sunglasses, hats, and any other conventional outdoor gear can severely limit visibility and make both difficult to detect and distinguish between faces.

So far, the outdoor “facial recognition” cameras that I have tested, like The presence of Netatmo, was not really able to distinguish between stored personal databases in terms of faces. Instead, they can just tell you that they’ve seen a person. We’ll just have to try Lynx Solar for ourselves and report back.
