Smart LED bulbs join Belkin’s WeMo product line

Belkin is adding LED bulbs rapidly expanding The WeMo smart device family, the company announced today at CES.

The Belkin WeMo Smart LED bulb is an 800-watt 60-watt replacement that you will be able to remotely control on Android and iOS devices using the free WeMo app. Each bulb has a warm white temperature of 3000K with a lifespan of 25,000 hours. You will be able to automatically turn the light on and off at certain times or activate them using another WeMo device, like motion detector.

IFTTT can use the GPS in your iPhone to enable your WeMo lights to turn on or off whenever you enter or leave a designated area.

Like light switch and module plug-in has named WeMo, WeMo Smart LED Bulbs will be fully compatible with the free web service IFTTT, allowing them to be activated using nifty things like iOS location and Foursquare registration.

However, unlike other WeMo devices, you’ll need a separate accessory – the “WeMo Link” plug-in hub – to use them. That means you can’t just buy a $ 39 bulb and start automating it right out of the box – you’ll need to buy a two-bulb bulb. WeMo LED starter kit for $ 129, comes with WeMo Links.

The only other IFTTT compatible bulb is Philips Hue that changes color.

However, the only other bulb that can automate directly via IFTTT is Philips Hue, with a starter kit that costs $ 199. If you’re interested in IFTTT controlled lighting (and not overly concerned with on-demand color-changing bulbs), then Belkin bulbs are probably pretty tempting. . If IFTTT didn’t tempt you and simple automation processes will work fine, then you may want to consider Connected using TCP Wireless LED Light, offers three LEDs that can be automated, but costs $ 20 less than Belkin’s kit.
